VEU Rebates – Victorian Energy Upgrades

The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program is a Victorian Government initiative that helps homeowners, landlords, and businesses reduce the cost of installing energy-efficient products. By encouraging the adoption of modern technologies, the program supports lower energy consumption, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and long-term savings on energy bills.

How Does the VEU Program Work?

Under the VEU program, approved energy-efficient upgrades generate Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs). Each VEEC represents one tonne of greenhouse gas emissions avoided through the installation of eligible products.Energy retailers are required to purchase these certificates to meet their environmental obligations, allowing accredited providers like Efficient Upgrades to pass the savings directly on to customers through discounted installation costs.

Heating and cooling is the flagship VEU activity until 2030.

Hot water pump rebates can attract both VEU reabtes and STC rebates.

Each ‘VEU friendly’ install creates VEU reabtes

Often the more energy-saving the install, the more rebates that is created

There are VEEC rebates for a huge range of common split system installs.

Installers can use part of the rebate to get paid to engage with the programme, to win more work and create more jobs

How are VEECs calculated?

VEECs are created when a VEU-approved install is undertaken. The number of VEECs created depends on a range of things.

Your existing system

Older and less energy-efficient units may qualify for higher rebate benefits.

The new system you choose

Installing high-efficiency approved products can maximise your potential savings.

Installation location

Rebate calculations may vary depending on whether the property is in metropolitan or regional Victoria, as well as the local climate zone.

Energy efficiency rating

Products with better energy performance typically generate greater rebate value.
